Writing status/check-in/where am I at?
Jan. 21st, 2026 07:57 amReached a couple of milestones yesterday, and I'm mentally basically ready to shift back into working on my original projects. Just trying to remember where I'm at with everything. Also cool milestone alert!
Milestone alert: GYWO monthly goal for January, reached! ;)
With my pledge, I should write 12.5k words a month, and now I'll have reached it at least once this year!! It feels really good to start the year being on track. As much as Time Is A Construct, I think I should be careful not to set myself up for big editing projects in January in the future, in general.
I'm so surprised that over 5k of that was for a Spring Thunder fic. Like. I do write freely for tiny fandoms! But usually it's more like coughing out a vignette or a missing scene, or a tiny fix-it to deal with canon stress. Not a full hurt/comfort rescue mission. In the end though, I wrote it for the same reasons I wrote those shorter vignettes in the past: it feels good :D It feels right. It was fun. AND I get to reread and enjoy something tailored to my id in the future :D I was delighted with myself by the end of the first draft, hopefully that'll hold when I return to it for edits :D
Time-sensitive fics
I'll likely just let most of the unposted stuff I wrote rest for a while. Couple of exceptions I have in mind:
- Well I do need to proofread and post my Candy Hearts assignment. That would be good to do on time XD
- For my last 600 words to reach the milestone yesterday, I wrote something for Wind Breaker that will probably be invalidated by a new manga chapter next week. I'd like to clean that up and post it so there's a chance it can be enjoyed as-is for a few days before becoming canon divergent XD
- Not really time-sensitive, but I want to post a couple of BNHA fics to get them out of my mind. One was written 3y ago for a collaborative project that never quite completed its landing and I think it's long enough. I need to free my mind of it before I forget it even exists.
Original stuff
( Soul Thief edit preps Take Two )
This was supposed to help me figure out what to do this morning, but it didn't really help in the end! Maybe I'll see if there's a fic in an editable state. I know there's a couple of finished drafts in there, but for some of those I wanted to do a canon review first... Gah!! So many fun things to do, so little time :D
A Reckoning of Swords 19-20
Jan. 20th, 2026 08:48 pmI'm trying to get better at picking at things when I have a few spare minutes, instead of feeling like I need a block of time to code/write/whatever.
The Lemonade Cafe's twenty-third (whut?!) anniversary is somewhere in the next couple of weeks. Looking back, it's traditionally been celebrated between the 30th of January and the 7th of February, so it's very much an anniversary week and not a firm date. This is basically because the original site was coded for a class project for a one-credit web-dev class I took my last semester of university. Once the class was over and the site (a fairly general KH site, tbh) graded, I promptly swapped it over to hosting the fanfiction I'd been writing for an entire month at that point.
I don't actually have any anniversary plans so um, help me make some?
Current gunpla/plamo kit is [redacted] for a contest so mostly all I can yell about is glitter and rhinestones, lol.
fog advisory.
Jan. 20th, 2026 06:42 pmHoly fucking shit. After Life is Strange: Double Exposure, which I am pretty sure I am the only person on the entire internet who actually really loved it, warts and all, underperformed financially (plus the state of the gaming industry in 2025/2026), I was so sure we weren't getting a follow up — regardless of the Max Caulfield Will Return at the end.
I am so excited.
Trailer spoilers ahhhhh
I hear Ashly Burch!
So, like, I previously said that the story was fine without Chloe; not having her around allowed Max to grow as a protagonist. But I am so ready to just have all my emotions punched in the face by whatever this game has in store for me! (As long as it isn't a complete sanitisation of the original game's ending.) I'm very happy to see the DE characters sticking around, too.
Hopefully some of the temporal messiness/dropped plotlines from DE can be addressed here. I mean, I doubt it. But it would be nice.
I legitimately had no idea this was happening. March, hurry up and get here!!!
Snowflake Challenge 2026 - Challenge 10: Big Mood Board
Jan. 20th, 2026 02:36 pm
Challenge #10: Big Mood (Board)
CHOOSE SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND CREATE A MINI MOOD COLLECTION OF THREE (or more) ITEMS THAT EVOKE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT IT. You don’t have to limit yourself to visual media, or collect the items into a special format like a square (though you can if you’d like).
Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it.
Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. Also, feel free to entice engagement by giving us a preview of what your post covers.
I wasn't quite comfortable doing a mood board, because I didn't know where to get images from for it! Look, I care about artists/photographers/graphic designers; I am not about to do a random web search and steal their art for a frivolous purpose. I did look at Pixabay briefly for free clipart but didn't see anything that was right for the first term I searched on, which was "crying", lol.
Anyway, I ended up making a word cloud of terms and feelings from Final Fantasy XIV. And yes, "sobbing" was one of the first words I put in. There is a certain zone in this game that I sobbed my way through. No really, it took me THREE HOURS to traverse the zone and I cried for every minute of it. That's how powerful the emotions are in this game.
I cannot say enough good things about FFXIV. The story is absolutely amazing and you WILL be affected by it. The gameplay is pretty darn fun, too! I love the game to pieces and thus there was no competition here; I +was+ going to create something related to it.
If you're interested in giving FFXIV a try, let me know! I'd be glad to give pointers to any sprouts (FFXIV term for "new player").

God Bless Us, Everyone?
Jan. 20th, 2026 06:18 pmFlicking through, here are some of the more interesting differences I've noticed between the script version and the actual performance I saw on the fourteenth of January!
( Some differences between the script and the actual staged version of Christmas Carol Goes Wrong. )
Finally, a delightful little exchange from the script that I don't remember being in the show itself:
Sandra: Listen, we all know the Cornley Gazette's official policy has been not to review our shows since our immersive production of Dracula.
Robert: The small print on the ticket clearly said I would enter his house and bite him.
I'm A Plate And This Is Great.
Jan. 20th, 2026 09:48 amIn this roundup: a Clair Obscur ficlet! See, I can still think about things that aren't the Goes Wrong Show.
And also six Goes Wrong Show ficlets.
( Clair Obscur, Maelle/Verso, 60 words, prompt: keeping secrets. )
( Assorted ficlets for the Goes Wrong Show, mainly Chris and Robert, 850 words total. )
I get so excited whenever anyone comments on my Goes Wrong fills to say they don't know the canon but enjoyed the characters. I'm like some sort of mad evangelist for Robert Grove.
(no subject)
Jan. 19th, 2026 07:21 pm... suddenly less cranky XD
anyway Very Cool Stuff is happening art-wise, i'm finally getting the clothes shipments/some sick doujin packages from last year and i feel like i can start for real celebrating the new year \o/

35 Played
Takeaways
◆ Huge number of games played this year, and not many replays this time. Still not the most in recent years, but still pretty impressive! I thank the shorter retro games that don't really take all that long to beat when it comes down to it.
◆ This was a year of playing games I'd started years ago but never finished. Or at least, it felt like it, but that only applies to about 9 of the 35 games there.
◆ Favourites of the year were Legacy of Kain: Defiance, Crystalis, Lunar: Silver Star Story Remastered, Lies of P: Overture, Look Outside, Fantasy Life i, Alisia Dragoon, and El Viento.
◆ Not-so-favourites of the year were Blood Omen 2, Air Zonk, Atomic Robo-Kid Special, and Bikkuriman World. Seriously, aside from Blood Omen 2, why did I play these to finish?
◆ In relation to the previous note, this was also the year of me re-learning to drop games. I tried playing Aedis Eclipse early in the year and quickly found it was not for me. Instead of forcing myself to finish it, I dropped it. Wish I had applied that to some games later in the year, but I think it's finally sunk in that I can just... stop playing a game if I'm not enjoying it.
◆ Wish I'd played more Fantasy Life i in the post-game, but I think I was distracted with the upcoming move by that point. Also wish I'd played it with friends more than I did;
◆ Please play Look Outside, if you can handle cartoon-y gore and like survival RPGs. I'm still flabbergasted by how good that game is.
A Reckoning of Swords 11-18
Jan. 18th, 2026 01:47 amI did finish RG Justice, who is very detailed and very handsome! He's with his gaming buddies on my tray table right now, but I need a slightly better place to set him/that group up since they'll be an evolving display for a bit. Perhaps it's time to repurpose the mangar for a bit, or at least that space...
Justice is, for now, not sporting his backpack because it is Very Heavy and also just kind of all-around awkward. There's one piece I may need to put a dot of glue on through no fault of anyone. I also think it might be time to change out my main panel line markers.
First, I should clean off my desk...
Snowflake Challenge 2026 - Challenge 9: Favorite Tropes
Jan. 18th, 2026 01:16 pm
Challenge #9
Talk about your favorite tropes in media or transformative works. (Feel free to substitute in theme/motif/cliche if "trope" doesn't resonate with you.)
Post your answer to today's challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it.
Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. Also, feel free to entice engagement by giving us a preview of what your post covers.
Given that I've read a romance novella recently (Courtney Milan's "The Pursuit Of..."), I've got romance tropes on the brain.
I like a slow burn. I remember once borrowing a book from the library and the main characters were having sex by page 50 and I was like "...". Yeah, that completely turned me off. The desire, the wanting, the longing is FUN! Jumping into bed that early misses out on a lot of the fun for me.
When I was younger, I liked "damsel in distress" tropes in romance novels, but I don't really have the patience for that these days. Because in those kind of books, too often the hero doesn't realize his feelings for the heroine UNTIL she gets herself into trouble, and that's kind of boring.
Looking at this list of tropes: My own writing has had the "mutual pining" trope, and yeah, I really dig that in a romance novel. I'm not opposed to "Enemies to Lovers" but it's not something I normally read these days, nor write. "Friends to Lovers"? yes, I like that, and I'm working on some more fics revolving around that theme.
I feel like a lot of my own fic is "Missing Scene" stuff (not that I've written much fic yet! but still). I try hard to fit my fic into the canon, either in the midst of it (as with my FFXII & FFXIV fic) or after it (as with my FFV fic). The thing is, canon usually means SO MUCH to me that I want to extend it. I don't feel I'm trying to fix it, more like... taking a thing that canon made me feel/think and running with it.
I'm not entirely sure I understand the definition of "crack" but I think I've written some? Both Best-Laid Plans & if you like it, then you should've put an earring on it (fics by me) are what I consider to be crack. Ridiculous situations that surprise the reader and make them laugh or smile.
I very much strongly identify with the "Fluff" nomenclature. Most of my fics are short, sweet little things. I have written angst but I'd much rather write happy things.
I like there being some humor in what I read/write. If I can crack up over my own work? BONUS. I think there's room for humor in most longer works, because life is NOT always dreary. Sometimes the funny happens, and that should be included.
I don't do AUs, really. I haven't read much fanfic myself yet, but the idea of reading my favorite characters in alternate settings just doesn't appeal to me. Like I said above: I want to see canon extended, not transformed.
Given that I read so rarely these days, it's a wonder to me that I even have a sense of what I like and dislike. I'm hoping to read more this year, of both traditional published works and fanfic. But yeah, these are some things that draw me.
Making My Fandom Everyone Else's Problem.
Jan. 18th, 2026 11:48 amOf course, this time, I've been neck-deep in a specific fandom when the ficathon has rolled around. I apologise to everyone for turning every prompt into an excuse to write for the Goes Wrong Show.
I've got a few ficlets from elsewhere I haven't yet posted here, so I'll share those before launching into the ficathon:
( Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning/Snow, 330 words, prompt: missing Serah. )
( Taskmaster, s20 cast, 120 words, prompt: pirate AU. )
( Danganronpa, Komaeda/Kokichi, 350 words. )
( Deltarune, Kris and Noelle, 500 words, prompt: the Snowgrave porch visit. )
( Hundred Line/Danganronpa, Yugamu/Komaeda, 150 words, NB sexual surgery. )
And now for the actual
( Assorted ficlets for the Goes Wrong Show, Robert and Chris, 450 words total. )
Most of these are actually three sentences, for a change! We'll see whether that lasts.
