Some...things I wanted to post about:

I've been really stressed about money lately because a lot of my more consistent gigs in the manga world have been eaten up by the push to simulpubs, which often cuts out the editing step entirely so they can push chapters out faster. At least one of the titles I've been cut from I was actually really invested in, because I have terminal giving-a-shit disease no matter how little they pay me, and in general I sure am not happy about the general trend towards faster and faster "content" over quality.

As a result I've been looking into picking up other kinds of editing/proofreading gigs, but my critical lack of confidence has been sort of a sticking point.

My work's won industry awards and I cannot bring myself to offer my services to some first-time indie novelist with a shoestring budget because what if I'm not good enough.

Fandom-wise, I'm currently signed up to do Nonconathon (my favorite fic exchange) and Multifandom Doodle (an all-skill-levels doodle exchange) and actually really excited about the latter. I used to draw a lot (like, ten years ago) but drifted off it.

I have picked up doll customization in the intervening time, though, and I've been really loving it. I've always loved dolls but was just way too embarassed to admit I liked "girly" stuff as a child, plus there just weren't a lot of cool fantasy themed dolls available anyway at the time (this was decades before the Monster High fashion doll revolution). I'll probably post some pics sometime, I'm pretty proud of them.

My friend, someone I haven't seen in person for maybe a decade, scored tickets to FFXIV Fanfest so...we're going. I'm working on a cosplay of Honoroit and I'm terrified for many reasons I don't feel like getting into here, but I am enjoying the process of working on it.

I'm currently playing Octopath Traveler (which I am really enjoying, like a lot, I have a LOT of thoughts about the mechanics design that I might put together sometime) and I just finished Strange Horticulture, which I also really enjoyed.

I'm currently not sure what I'm going to read next.

Hi! Spotted your entry in Latest Things and found it interesting!! Wishing you well with the cosplay, the fanfest sounds fun :D Good luck with the events as well, I always see a lot of people excited about multifandom doodle on my reading page.

I didn't realise editing often just got skipped nowadays. This sucks. Good luck with exploring other types of gigs.

Thank you! The lack of editing and quality control is mainly in manga (and presumably anime subs too, I just don't work on those) that are simulpubbed -- the release schedule is already very tight in Japan, and the English side of things is even tighter. It's not all publishers though, thankfully, and more traditional release schedules aren't suffering -- it's just that the demand for faster and faster content production is enormous and I don't think a lot of readers really understand how demanding the manga industry can be on the US side. Luckily that is changing, though!

And yeah, I'm really excited about multifandom doodle! It seems like a great way to get back into drawing a little and I don't feel like I'll be judged for my lack of skills at all. There are so many fun prompts too!

Octopath Traveler is so much fun! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I started the second one but allowed myself to get distracted by Harvestella, oops.

I am like, genuinely obsessed with the mechanics design in this game. Path actions are such a good idea I am frankly astounded I haven't seen stuff like this in more RPGs.

Also, hilariously, I keep poking at making a game in RPGMaker and every. single. time. I have an idea it turns out to have already been done in Octopath Traveler lol.......

Some day I really should sit down and play with the multiple copies of RPGMaker I've bought....
